Business Travel World Awards 2009 Business Travel World Awards 2008
MEET THE JUDGES

Business Travel World judges are not selected as representatives of companies but as individuals who represent different experiences, perspectives and knowledge of the corporate travel industry.

We have this year expanded our panel to nine judges to enable all those shortlisted in every category to be interviewed as part of the selection process.  No judge is involved in any category in which they or their company may have an interest.  In addition, all Business Travel World judges have signed a non-disclosure agreement to guarantee the confidentiality of any information contained within a submission or disclosed during a presentation or interview.

The judges try to be as clear as possible in stipulating eligibility, criteria and questions but if you are still uncertain, you may ask the judges for clarification by emailing btwawards@emap.com.  All questions submitted this way and the judges’ answers will be posted on Judges’ Q and As.  Please do not ask any member of the BTW team – only the judges will be able to answer.

The judges volunteer many hours to read all entries and debate their findings before the ultimate winners are determined.  Their decision is final.

Andrew Solum
Director TIA Global Ltd

Andrew is currently the Director of Travel Industry Associates Ltd., an outsourced-travel & event management company based at Canary Wharf.  He established the company in 1998, following a five year stint as a dedicated travel manager in The City.  TIA’s current client base includes companies from Asia to Europe, the US to Africa, and it ensures Andrew is frequently on the road, acting as travel manager for a wide variety of companies.  In addition to a full work schedule, Andrew enjoys taking part in media interaction, which has recently included interviews for BBC television and South African Radio.

Born in New York but raised mostly in London, Andrew grew up commuting on VC-10s and 707s across the Atlantic.  This early and frequent globetrotting ignited Andrew’s passion for travel, so much so he decided to make it his career.  Following graduation from Vassar College and a year in France, Andrew relocated to London in 1989 and was quickly immersed in the travel business.  His enthusiasm for travel is well known, and extends as far as having a genuine pair of Concorde seats in his office which are visitor chairs.

Andrew’s interests outside of travel include wine appreciation, cooking (where he is trying to master some of the finer points of Asian cuisine), tennis and sailing.  He is also passionate about France, spending much of his free time there during the year.

Andrew is honoured to once again serve on Business Travel World's distinguished judging panel.
